Introduction to my family
Hi there! Welcome to my blog. I know this entry is long overdue... as u know when you start working and face the computer the whole day, you just dun wan to start facing the computer when you get back home. Anyway enuff of it and let me intro the new members of my family.
Recently i bought some pets... Well i will love to have dogs but it is really hard considering i dun have much time to spend with them and my current place do not allow me to keep them. So i decide to settle for guinea pigs.
For those who dun know wat guinea pigs are, this is wat it is....
"Guinea pigs (also called cavies after their scientific name) are rodents belonging to the family Caviidae and the genus Cavia. Despite their common name, the animals are not pigs, nor do they come from Guinea. They are originally native to the Andes, and while they are no longer extant in the wild, they are closely related to several species which are commonly found in the grassy plains and plateaus of this region. The guinea pig plays an important role in the folk culture of indigenous South Americans, especially as a food source, but also in folk medicine and in community religious ceremonies. Since the 1960s, the guinea pig has become increasingly important as a staple food in the Andes, and efforts have been made to increase consumption of the animal outside South America."
There are many different breed of guinea pigs. The most common breeds found in pet stores include:
- The English Short Hair, also called American and known in Europe as the Self breed, which has a smooth, glossy, short coat.
- The Abyssinian, which has a rough coat made of cowlicks, crests, and swirls called rosettes. The number of rosettes on an Abyssinian varies, but eight or more are required in a show quality animal.
- A White Crested (known in Europe as the American Crested) is similar in appearance to the American but has a white rosette at the top of the head (crown).
- The Peruvian is a long-haired breed with hair falling in all directions (even over the face, which may make it hard to tell the front from the back). Show animals are required never to have their hair cut, and uncut coats may grow up to 20 inches in length.
- Another long-haired guinea pig is a Silkie (known in Europe as a Sheltie). Very much like a Peruvian, but with no hair in front of the face.
- A rarer long-haired breed is the Texel which has long hair like the Peruvian, but this hair is curly.
- The Coronet breed is similar to the silkie but has a rosette on the top of the head, similar to a crested.
- The Teddy is a breed with short, fuzzy hair all over its body that should stand straight out and be "kinky".
Day 1

I have settled for this little one.....
His name is Stewie (from the family guy). We named him that becoz we were told by a frenz tat his breed tend to b more domineering, so the character in family guy who scheme alot to kill of his mum. Haha! But it turns out to be wrong, as he tends to get bullied most of the time except meals time. I wanted to change his name to 'piggie' since he eat so much... as long as there is food, he dun really care abt anithing else. i was so afraid that he will overeat.
Then we have Itchy. He is of smaller size as compared to Stewie. He is the most timid one as compared to the rest. He tend to b afriad of everything. He has a brother called.....
Scatchy. Now u know y the previous one is call Itchy (for those who dun, i got the name from the mouse & cat in simpsons). I tot it will b pretty cool since they are brothers. Anyway Scatchy is known to be the fastest runner of the grp, and the most inquisitive one. He also can b quite selfish when it comes to food & hidety place.
Yup i know it seems handful. I wanted to get 2 only so tat both of them will keep each other company. At 1st i chose Itchy & Scratchy, then the pet shop person brought out Stewie and i told he he really cute when the pet shop patted him and he purred in delight. So in the end i settled for Stewie & Scratchy. After tat i was looking around the store to get the other essentials when Alvin & Norman came to me to ask me get the last one (Itchy) as well. As u know guinea pigs are social animals and Itchy was lookin lost when the other 2 were taken out from the cage. So out of pity, i decide to take the last remaning one as well. So there u go, i have 3 of them. They were just 12 weeks old.

Note: The hairdryer is blowing room temperature air so it is not animal abusing... it is just not wanting them to catch a cold as it is getting late in the evening.
